Tribal districts got Rs146 billion after merger

PESHAWAR:  After merger, Rs146 billion were being paid to the tribal districts for development, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan was informed. The meeting was told that Rs84 billion funds were spent on development of erstwhile Fata before merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, whereas Rs146 billion were being paid after the merger.

The meeting was briefed that the population of the merged tribal districts is about 2.4 percent of the total population of the country, while their share in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award stands at about Rs80 billion. Of the above, about 4 percent payments are currently being made by the federal government. The meeting reviewed the ongoing development activities in the merged districts. The participants were informed that in the budget for the financial year 2021-22, an allocation of about Rs130 billion was made for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in terms of merged tribal districts.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the provinces to play their part in fulfilling the promise of paying their share for the construction and development of the tribal districts. The meeting was attended by Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Fayaz Tarin, Planning Minister Asad Umar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Special Assistance to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill, SAPM Dr Waqar Masood, KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Finance Secretary and other senior officials, said an official statement.
