Compensation for Murree tragedy victims announced

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has announced financial assistance for those died in Murree tragedy. The chief minister has announced financial assistance of Rs8 lakh each for the families of the deceased.

The Chief Minister Usman Bazdar also visited the snow-affected areas of Murree and formed a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Home Affairs for investigation and identify those responsible for the tragedy.

In addition, approval was given to build two new police stations and 2 parking plazas in Murree. Usman Bazdar also ordered action against overcharging hotels in Murree.

A preliminary investigation report of the Murree tragedy has been submitted to the Chief Minister in which it was stated that on January 7, 4 feet of snow was witnessed in Murree in 16 hours and from January 3 to January 7, 162,000 vehicles entered Murree.

According to the report, 22 people in vehicles died due to  carbon monoxide during the snowfall, trees were blocked at 16 places and traffic was blocked while 21,000 vehicles were sent back.
