AWKUM ranked Top among Pakistani Universities

Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM), University of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), ranked first among the Pakistani Universities according to the list issued by the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2021.

World body examined seventeen Universities of Pakistan and AWKUM declared top in country and 510th at world level in terms of research and citation. Earlier, Quaid.e.Azam University, Islamabad was holding the first position in the ranking among the Universities of Pakistan.

On this Occasion, AWKUM Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor-ul-Haq said that “It is an honor that the Univer¬sity has 300 PhDs, the largest numbers of doc-torate degree holders in the province.” He added that even in terms of funds allocated for research, the AWKUM remained on top in KP. He said that the winning of top position had encouraged the university’s faculty and administration. The AWKUM vice-chancellor asked the PhDs of the university to play a role in improving the quality of education.

AWKUM was established in April 2009, in Mardan KPK named after the great Pashtoon leader Abdul Wali Khan. The university started in an already-built postgraduate college of Mardan, has several campuses and more than ten thousand students enrolled in different disciplines.

Currently the university has six faculties and three constituent colleges. The faculties are Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences, Faculty of Physical & Numerical Sciences, Faculty of Economics & Business, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty Agriculture.

It is the biggest higher education institute for the students of Swabi, Charsadda, Nowsehra, Mardan, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Northern Punjab, Kohat, Southern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the extensive Tribal region along the boundaries of the Province.

The university has several campuses at different places in KPK offering different disciplines: Main Campus, Garden Campus, Pabbi Campus, Palosa Campus, Riffat Mahal Campus, Shankar Campus, Timergara Campus.

Each campus has digital library where students issue books with the digital machine which issues the books through library cards moreover there is an e-books support programmer that allows researchers to access most of the important text and reference books electronically in a variety of subject areas. Around 75,000 number of electronic content has been made available through the Digital Library Programme. It also helps researchers to access the international scholarly literature based on electronic (online) delivery, high quality, peer-reviewed journals, databases, articles and e-Books across a wide range of disciplines.

This kind of achievement motivates other Universities of Pakistan to involve and provide such environment to the students and scholars where they can do researches with facilities and can get more prominent names in researches to get the top ranks among the universities of world.
